Description

Graycor Construction Company is seeking a Safety Manager for an immediate opportunity in the Savannah, GA or Houston, TX area on a distribution center project. This person will assist and guide the project management team in the conduct of assigned field operations, to assure a healthful and safe work environment on the jobsite, with a goal of accident-free execution. Graycor Construction Company specializes in general commercial and light industrial construction projects, including retail & mall development, entertainment, hospitality & lodging, manufacturing, and warehouse/ distribution centers.


In this position, you will have the responsibility of:

  • Conducting regular and continuous job inspections throughout the project to detect potential accident situations, report to Project Safety Manager both positive and negative findings.
  • Monitoring proper use of all available safety and test equipment and promote consistent utilization of such gear among the jobsite work force.
  • Inspecting tools and equipment utilized on the jobsite for compliance with required safety standards and verify corrective repair where indicated.
  • Promoting a high level of safety consciousness among project employees by assisting in the training of supervisors in the proper manner of conducting toolbox safety meetings, monitoring compliance to tool box safety meeting requirements.
  • Documenting "incidents" to include unsafe conditions, near misses and actual accidents. Submit required reports to Project Safety Manager, promptly and in complete form.
  • Investigating circumstances of any accident to identify cause and corrective action.
  • Participating in the proper and consistent dissemination of all safety information and company safety policy requirements to jobsite personnel.
  • Assisting, as needed, in obtaining proper first aid and necessary subsequent medical attention for any injured employee.
  • Immediately reporting any willful disregard of safety policy or instruction by any Company employee to the Project Safety Manager, and fully document such a situation.
  • Immediately halting any jobsite activity deemed to be imminently hazardous to personnel or property, to be simultaneously brought to the attention of the Project Manager and Safety Manager.
  • Causing any employee obviously impaired by drug or alcohol use to be removed from the work activity and reported to the Project Manager and Safety Manager.

In order to be successful in this position, you will need:

  • A proven track record performing all responsibilities as detailed above.
  • Be willing to travel or relocate to the project site for the duration of the project which is projected to be 18 – 24 months if needed.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Outlook, Word, Excel); strong report writing skills required.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills required.
  • Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and interact with client representatives, project managers, and superintendents required.
  • Ability to analyze complex problem, evaluate alternatives, and make creative recommendations.
    Strong attention to detail, organization skills and the ability manage multiple, competing priorities.
