As Operations Manager, You Will Have the Opportunity To:
Develop, plan, coordinate and manage both the pre-contract and post-contract execution of multiple construction projects as assigned, to ensure completion of work in the safest manner possible, at the lowest reasonable cost and in compliance with the client contract documents.
Within the heavy industrial process/power markets, specific emphasis will be placed on piping, mechanical equipment, plate work, and structural. The successful candidate will drive for results and operational excellence at all levels; foster a work environment that supports safety leadership, teamwork, and continuous improvement in all elements of the business.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Organize and execute the project safety compliance program within the guidelines of Company policies.
- Support and implement the Company’s quality program within the guidelines of Company policies and project-specific quality manuals.
- Develop and maintain a thorough understanding of the provisions and requirements of all assigned contract documents.
- Develop, analyze, and manage the preliminary project documentation, such as project code of accounts, subcontracts and purchase orders.
- Organize and plan the execution of the physical work.
- Develop and oversee the project schedule and direct its long term planning and execution.
- Communicate/coordinate schedule & plan with project supervisions, subcontractors and vendors.
- Recognize on-site activities which may impede project progress or jeopardize compliance to project/contract requirements. Prepare and submit related informational documents to the client or other responsible parties and implement corrective measures.
- Oversee / maintain strict control of the project budget for each work activity.
- Report monthly on the progress and current profitability of the project.
- Review and approve related subcontractor and vendor invoices and change requests.
- Prepare, quote and negotiate contract changes with client, with General Manager’s guidance.
- Interface with the client by receiving and communicating initial project setup information and periodic project status, writing significant project related correspondence, and representing the Company in meetings.
- Maintain open communication with all other support and business units involved with the project.
- Promote goodwill with clients to facilitate construction activities and future repeat business.
- Oversee project activities of the on-site project managers, superintendents, craft and staff.
- Participate in bidding, pre-construction services, budgeting and Continuous Improvement Programs.
- Recruit, train and coach/develop field management and supervision; support employee retention processes.
To Be Successful in This Role, You Will Need:
- Minimum of fifteen years of project management experience in the industrial construction markets of the heavy industrial process industries. Estimating and business development experience is a plus.
- Bachelor degree in construction management, business management or relevant discipline preferred, but not required.
- Working knowledge of Heavy Industrial Process Market clientele in the southeast US; Knowledge of Power and Metals/Steel market clients is a plus.
- Must be knowledgeable with craft labor issues and productivity expectations in these markets and the southeast geographic footprint.
- Must have previous on-site project management experience managing capital projects and outages.
- Ability to lead a Beyond Zero safety culture and to hold self and others accountable for leading safe work practices.
- Ability to mentor, train, and develop the field management team.
- Must be familiar with lump sum, competitive bid environment
- Must be familiar with a “self-perform” multi-trade project environment.
- Ability to travel up to 50% with the capability to manage projects on-site, if required.
- Effective oral and written communication skills required and the ability to build and maintain strong client relationships required.
- Strong business development skills and the ability to generate new business preferred.
- Problem solver with a strong attention to detail, organization skills and the ability manage multiple, competing priorities.
- Must understand and ensure compliance with project controls.
- Software skills in Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel), estimating and scheduling software skills.
