Description
The MEP Superintendent oversees the planning, coordination, and installation of all mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection (MEP) systems on construction projects. This role ensures that building systems are installed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with design specifications, schedule, and quality standards. The MEP Superintendent works closely with project management, field supervision, subcontractor trade partners, and commissioning teams to deliver fully functional systems that meet client expectations.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
- Implement all safety policies and quality programs, ensuring strong performance on safety audits. Foster a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork on site.
- Lead, coordinate, and supervise the on-site installation of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
- Review MEP drawings, specifications, and submittals for constructability, sequencing, and coordination with structural and architectural scopes.
- Support development and maintenance of project schedules, identifying critical MEP milestones and long-lead items.
- Direct and monitor subcontractor performance for safety, quality, and productivity. maintaining strict control over the accuracy and quality for each work activity; plan look-ahead schedules, maintain project schedule controls.
- Participate in coordination meetings (BIM, trade coordination, and field reviews) to resolve system conflicts.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable codes, standards, and safety regulations.
- Verify field installation against design documents and perform quality inspections.
- Manage startup, testing, and commissioning activities in collaboration with trade partners and the commissioning agent.
- Maintain daily reports, document progress, and communicate status updates to project management.
- Support change management by identifying scope gaps or design discrepancies early.
- Identify and report problems or deficiencies to project management. Document on-site activities that may impede progress or compliance to project/contract requirements.
- Review change orders with project management prior to execution. Miscellaneous purchases with project management approval. Review subcontract agreements. Maintain strict control over the budget for each work activity. Coordinate receipt of and inventory of all Owner supplied materials.
- Assist in preparation of project status reports. Provide status and photos weekly. Provide complete daily reports to the Project Manager.
- Maintain open communication and goodwill with the Owner's representative by coordinating pertinent work activities, attending project progress/scheduling meetings and by understanding the client’s expectations.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum five to ten years of field supervision experience in data center, mission critical, manufacturing, or industrial construction.
- Proven background managing mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems installation.
- Experience working on projects using BIM coordination and commissioning processes.
- Strong understanding of building systems, drawings, and specifications.
- Capability of maintaining and following a Critical Path project schedule.
- General knowledge and experience in executing work within a variety of construction delivery methods; experience working in self-perform environment preferred.
- A thorough understanding of and ability to maintain current, complete set of project documents, blueprints, revisions, specifications and related items.

- Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability manage multiple, competing priorities. Multi-tasking with a sense of urgency while adhering to established guidelines, policies, and specifications is crucial.
- Proficient skills in MS Outlook, Teams, Word, Excel and scheduling software required. Experience with project management (Procore) is a plus.
- OSHA 30 certified preferred.
- The ability to travel extensively and temporarily reside at the project site for extended periods of time preferred; weekly subsistence, return home travel stipend and travel incentive bonus provided.
