As a Safety Manager with Graycor Industrial Constructors, you will assist the Director, Safety in the establishment, direction, and coordination Graycor’s Zero Injury Safety Systems and the development of project safety professionals to support project safety objectives.
In this position, you will have the responsibility of:

Coordinate safety activities with project management and the Director, Safety to assure effective implementation of the Zero Injury safety system.

When assigned lead safety responsibilities, direct the work of project safety staff.

Assure and/or assist in the development of site-specific safety plans to meet applicable company, contract technical documents, and OSHA requirements.

Supervise and/or conduct new-hire safety personnel indoctrination and safety training to assure uniformity in the implementation of company safety programs, procedures, and policies.

Assist in planning and training activities for construction management and supervisory personnel.

Coordinate the acquisition of safety related equipment and materials, as directed.

Provide interaction with local and state OSHA inspectors and interface with Owners on matters of safety, health and environment.

Conduct periodic safety evaluations and audits of projects, yard & shop and fabrication shop providing feedback on the safety system’s effectiveness.

When directed by the Director, Safety, conduct root cause investigation and report results to senior management.

Participate in Safety Department meetings and planning session discussions.

Provide general, refresher and site-specific training and specialized equipment training as directed by the Director, Safety.

Formulate recommendations for management’s consideration and possible implementation.

Participate in the formulation of policy for the safety department.

Prepare reports regarding analysis of safety data.
In order to be successful in this position, you will need:

Undergraduate degree in occupational safety or related degree or the equivalent job-related experience to be able to perform the functions of the position proficiently.

Ten plus years of previous safety experience in a heavy industrial construction work environment required.

OSHA 500 or 510 certification preferred.

Be willing to travel regularly to project sites and, if assigned lead safety responsibilities, for the duration of a project which typical range between 18 and 24 months.

Strong computer skills (MS Outlook, Word, Excel); strong report writing skills required.

Effective oral and written communication skills required; ability to facilitate training sessions or meetings with a large group of craft and staff employees.

Effective interpersonal skills and the ability to influence and interact with client representatives, project managers, and superintendents required.

Ability to analyze complex problem, evaluate alternatives, and make creative recommendations.

Strong attention to detail, organization skills and the ability manage multiple, competing priorities.
